47 Birding in the Botanic Gardens - with Liz

About this episode

Discover how Liz Hackett's mindful birding walks in Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens have become a beautiful way to share nature with others, including watching the Nankeen Night Heron.

Liz (she/her) is standing in a wetland and has a look of surprise on her face. She is holding binoculars - maybe she's just seen a bird!

Watching David Attenborough at aged seven, Liz Hackett thinks that it was inevitable that she would grow up loving nature. From volunteering, to working for a conservation not-for-profit and to becoming a birder in her late thirties, it’s been a wonderful journey for Liz. She dedicates her Friends of the Royal Botanic Gardens bird walks to her darling husband Paul, who she lost in 2019. As a birding tour guide, he shared his passion and knowledge of birds with Liz. And, in return, she is passing on that love and knowledge to others.
