About the Festival

Weekend Birder is a proud supporter of the Mornington Peninsula Bird Festival. Come and birdwatch on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula in Victoria at the best time of the year. The Festival includes guided birdwatching, interesting presentations, workshops, social activities and an art show.

Mindfulness in Birding

Saturday 22 November, 3:00-3:50pm

Kirsty Costa (creator of Weekend Birder) and Dr Luke Smith (neuropsychologist) will be hosting a Mindfulness in Birding walk on Saturday 22nd November at the Mornington Peninsula Bird Festival. You’ll learn about the link between nature and mental wellbeing, and how observing birds - through sight and sound - can be a simple, everyday mindfulness practice. Enjoy the quiet tracks of Coolart as we slowly walk down to the wetlands (where we might see Blue-billed Ducks and other waterfowl). Wheelchair access available and no birdwatching experience needed.

Cost is $15, which contributes to the organising of the Festival.

There’s an app for that!

Sunday 23 November, 2:00-2:50pm

Join Kirsty and guests for a hands-on session about birdwatching apps. You’ll explore how your smartphone can help you identify birds, find hotspots and contribute to citizen science. You'll learn how to use both paid and free apps confidently and ethically. Expect practical demos, a few bird ID challenges, and plenty of app tips. Ideal for beginners with a smartphone and birders ready to level up. All welcome.

Cost is $15, which contributes to the organising of the Festival.
