Birdwatching in Western Australia (WA)

Close to the city

Yanchep National Park
Just an hour’s drive from Perth, there are a lot of things to do in this national park. Experience Aboriginal culture, join a cave tour, walk along the park's trails and enjoy a picnic. It is an excellent place to catch sight of the Carnaby's Black-Cockatoo (pictured) - a large and charismatic parrot found only in the southwest of Western Australia.

Don’t have a car? Try Kings Park and Botanic Garden near the Perth city centre.

Road trip

Purnululu National Park (Bungle Bungle Range)
In the heart of the Kimberley region, Purnululu National Park boasts incredible geological formations and a rich birdlife. As you explore the ancient landscapes, watch for the Spinifex Pigeon, a ground-dwelling bird with quirky habits, and the Rainbow Bee-eater which is resplendent in its multi-coloured plumage.

The Broome Observatory is another famous WA birding spot.
